If you're self-conscious about cracked, broken, decayed, or worn teeth, we can bring back your healthy, natural-looking smile with dental crowns. A crown can return structure, strength, and function to a tooth with extensive decay or damage. Designed to fit snugly and function as a healthy tooth, a crown will protect your tooth from further damage and preserve the jaw's correct natural alignment. Contact us today to learn more.
Crowns, which are usually made of durable dental porcelain or porcelain fused to metal, can be used to conceal a wide variety of flaws you may have in your smile. For example, they can fix teeth that are stubby, chipped, cracked, or discolored. They can also help hold together a tooth that has been damaged by decay in a way that a simple filling may not be able to. Finally, if a tooth is so fractured that bonding or filling alone won’t hold it together, a crown may be the perfect fit.
Getting a dental crown placed usually takes two appointments, after the initial consultation with Dr. Franzen. Once the tooth and surrounding gums have been numbed and prepped, we will take an impression of the tooth and send it off to the lab to have the crown made. In the meantime, we’ll place a temporary crown to protect your vulnerable tooth.
During your second appointment, made after the second crown is ready, we’ll replace your temporary crown with a more permanent one. To make it last as long as possible, be sure to exercise proper care, including regular brushing, flossing, and checkups with Dr. Franzen. Basically, take care of it in the same way you would care for a natural tooth.
